President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the era of neglecting satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is over, following the commissioning of a major water supply project designed to serve residents of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, and surrounding communities.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning ceremony in Kurudu, Abuja, the President described the project as a fulfillment of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and its commitment to delivering essential services to Nigerians.
The project comprises over 194 kilometres of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks aimed at providing safe and potable water to thousands of residents in the affected communities.
President Tinubu said access to clean water is a fundamental right and emphasized that his administration remains committed to extending critical infrastructure beyond the city centre to underserved communities across the FCT.
He noted that the project was approved and funded without bureaucratic delays, allowing the contractor to complete the work on schedule.
The President also commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across the territory, describing the ongoing investments in roads, housing, healthcare, education, transportation, and water supply as evidence of effective governance.
Tinubu urged residents to protect the facilities from vandalism and illegal connections, stressing that the infrastructure was built for their collective benefit and wellbeing.
The President further disclosed that similar water projects and infrastructure interventions are being replicated in Bwari and other area councils as part of broader efforts to improve living conditions and promote balanced development across the FCT.
Speaking at the event, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the project was executed in line with the President’s directive to extend critical infrastructure to satellite towns, while other officials described the development as a major step toward improving access to clean water and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
