President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged military forces across Africa to strengthen their collaboration in addressing the continent’s pressing security challenges. He made the call during the opening ceremony of the second edition of the Africa Military Games, held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Wednesday.

The event, themed “Enhancing Military Cooperation in Africa through Sports,” marks the revival of a tradition that began over two decades ago in Nairobi, Kenya. President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighted the importance of unity and military cooperation to ensure the security and stability of Africa.
In his remarks, President Tinubu stated:
“Our collective safety and the well-being of our people demand that we stand together, shoulder to shoulder, as one united Africa. This occasion is more than a gathering of extraordinary athletes; it is a reminder of the cooperation that binds the military institutions across our continent.”
The President emphasized that tackling Africa’s security threats requires more than traditional military measures. He stressed the importance of partnerships and camaraderie fostered through initiatives like the Africa Military Games.
“As long as any nation within our shared geography remains under threat, none of us can declare our continent secure. Together, we will build a safer, stronger Africa,” he added.
President Tinubu commended the efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff, General C.G. Musa, and the President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Major General Maikano Abdullahi, for spearheading the revival of the games. He noted the significance of sports in building physical fitness, discipline, and resilience among military personnel.
“Sports not only keep us physically fit but also instill core values such as integrity, excellence, and discipline. These traits are crucial for addressing the challenges faced by our military forces,” he said
