Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended Dr. Moses Ekuma, the Commissioner for Health, and Francis Ori, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development.
The suspensions were announced on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital.
A statement from the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, issued on Tuesday morning, revealed that the suspensions followed allegations of gross misconduct and neglect of duties by the two officials. Dr. Ekuma was suspended for three months, while Mr. Ori was indefinitely suspended.
Sources indicate that the suspensions may be linked to an incident involving the alleged theft of property from the Ministry of Health by its officials, as well as complaints about Mr. Ori’s underperformance, particularly his mishandling of the Amaeze Housing Scheme in Ishielu Local Government Area.
It is also worth noting that on Saturday night, Governor Nwifuru visited the Ministry of Health’s premises, where six officials were reportedly caught attempting to divert government materials. The governor ordered their arrest and prosecution.
