Three political parties have failed to submit the names of their presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closed its Candidate Nomination Portal for the 2027 general elections.
The closure of the portal marked the end of the deadline for the submission of presidential and National Assembly candidates by registered political parties.
INEC had earlier directed all political parties to conclude their primary elections and upload the particulars of their nominated candidates within the stipulated timeframe.
While most political parties successfully completed the nomination process before the deadline, three parties were unable to submit presidential candidates, effectively ruling them out of the 2027 presidential race unless otherwise provided by law or subsequent legal developments.
The commission is expected to publish the provisional list of presidential and National Assembly candidates in accordance with the Electoral Act, after which the processes for verification, corrections and possible substitutions, where applicable, will follow.
