
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after defeating former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in the party’s presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to the final results announced by the party, Atiku secured 1,855,787 votes to clinch the ADC presidential ticket. Amaechi came second with 509,397 votes, while Hayatu-Deen polled 180,903 votes.
A total of 2,546,457 votes were cast during the exercise out of the party’s 3,113,599 registered members eligible to participate in the election.
The primary election, conducted across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards using the Option A4 voting system, reportedly witnessed disagreements, with both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen raising concerns over the process before the final declaration of results.
