The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to transfer former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kuje, Abuja, for the commencement of his 75-year jail term.
Justice James Omotosho gave the directive after the EFCC presented the former minister before the court and filed a consequential order seeking the forfeiture of five additional properties allegedly linked to the convict.
Counsel to the prosecution and Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the court that the application dated May 25, 2026, sought the forfeiture of the newly discovered properties.
Justice Omotosho informed Mamman that his prison sentence takes effect immediately following the court proceedings.
Responding, Mamman explained that his absence from previous court sittings was due to ill health.
Although Mamman’s lead counsel, Femi Atteh, SAN, was absent from the proceedings, a representative sent on his behalf declined to accept the forfeiture application and reportedly left the courtroom without notifying the court or the prosecution team.
In his ruling, Justice Omotosho held that the forfeiture application would be adjourned in the interest of fair hearing.
The EFCC had prosecuted Mamman on an amended 12-count charge bordering on money laundering and the acquisition of multi-million naira properties outside the financial system, involving over N33 billion.
