President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance, generosity, and peaceful coexistence as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
The President made the call on Wednesday after observing the Eid prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos, where he appealed to citizens to reject ethnic divisions and hatred capable of threatening national unity.
President Tinubu, who was joined by top government officials and dignitaries, said the Eid-el-Kabir celebration serves as a reminder of obedience, sacrifice, love for humanity, and submission to the will of Almighty Allah, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
He thanked Almighty Allah for preserving the lives of Nigerians to witness another Eid celebration and stressed the need for citizens to show love and generosity to one another without discrimination based on ethnicity or background.
The President also urged Nigerians to remain tolerant and law-abiding, noting that the country’s strength lies in its diversity and shared humanity.
Speaking further, Tinubu condemned banditry and the killing of innocent people, saying no religion or holy teaching supports violence or the taking of human life.
Among those who joined the President for the prayers were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and other dignitaries.
In his sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, called on Muslims to uphold the virtues of sacrifice, unity, and generosity in line with Islamic teachings.
He also prayed for continued wisdom, strength, and good health for President Tinubu and commended the sacrifices of Nigeria’s past leaders in building national unity.
