President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved changes in Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the appointment of Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The appointment follows the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue participation in the 2027 elections.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, returns to the ministry in a higher capacity under the new arrangement.

In a related development, the President has also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.

Before his nomination, Ambassador Enikanolaiye, who hails from Kogi State, served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

A career diplomat with over 30 years of service, Enikanolaiye has held several senior positions, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

According to the Presidency, the appointments are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, improving efficiency, and enhancing strategic international engagement.

President Tinubu congratulated both appointees and charged them to prioritise Nigeria’s national interests, deepen economic diplomacy, promote regional stability, and ensure the welfare of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
