Security operatives in Kebbi State have arrested several suspected members and collaborators of Boko Haram and the Lakurawa extremist group during a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting terrorist networks in the state.

The Kebbi State Police Command disclosed that the arrests followed coordinated operations involving security agencies, local vigilante groups and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to the Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, operatives arrested three suspects along the Illo–Lolo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area on June 5. The suspects were allegedly transporting food supplies to criminal elements linked to Boko Haram activities in the area.

Preliminary investigations reportedly connected the suspects to movements around Illo during an attack on June 4 that claimed the lives of three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

In a separate operation conducted on June 7 along the Ka’oje–Bakin Ruwa Road in Bagudo LGA, security personnel arrested four additional suspects believed to be involved in Lakurawa activities within the SODA Forest axis.

Police also detained another suspect accused of supplying food items and providing transportation for members of the extremist group.

Authorities said a kidnapped victim was rescued and a stolen vehicle recovered during related operations carried out in collaboration with neighbouring security formations.

The arrests come amid intensified counterterrorism efforts across northwestern Nigeria, where security agencies have raised concerns over the growing activities of Lakurawa and its reported links to wider extremist networks operating across the Sahel region.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and other forms of violent crime in the state.
