
Gunmen have attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State, killing three security personnel attached to the facility.
The incident occurred late on Monday night when suspected armed attackers stormed the institute’s surroundings and engaged security operatives in a gun battle.
Security sources said the attackers attempted to force their way into the premises but were met with resistance from deployed personnel, resulting in a prolonged exchange of fire.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that three security operatives two soldiers and one police officer were killed during the attack.
Officials at NIPSS described the incident as a serious security breach but said the situation was brought under control and normal activities have since resumed within the institute.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those behind the attack and determine the motive. No group has claimed responsibility.
Residents reported hearing sustained gunfire during the night, causing panic in nearby communities before calm was restored.
