Troops attached to Operation Safe Haven have dismantled an alleged interstate arms trafficking network in Plateau State, resulting in the arrest of a dismissed police officer and several other suspects.
According to military authorities, the operation was carried out following actionable intelligence and sustained surveillance of suspected arms trafficking routes across the state.
Security sources disclosed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the movement and distribution of illegal firearms across state borders. During the operation, troops reportedly recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and other items believed to be linked to the illicit arms trade.
The identities of the suspects have not been officially released, as investigations remain ongoing.
Military officials described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons and tackle insecurity in North-Central Nigeria, where armed violence, banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes have continued to pose significant security challenges.
The latest breakthrough comes amid intensified operations by security agencies to disrupt criminal networks and stem the flow of illicit arms into conflict-prone communities.
Authorities said further investigations are underway and indicated that additional arrests may follow as efforts continue to dismantle the wider arms trafficking syndicate. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
