Vice President Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has assured families of military and police officers killed in a recent attack in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State that the Federal Government will not abandon them.
Shettima gave the assurance on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi while leading a federal government delegation on a condolence visit to Governor Nasir Idris over the killings of security personnel, the destruction of communities, and the passing of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman Zuru, who died in Cairo, Egypt.
He conveyed President Tinubu’s condolences, describing the incidents as painful losses, including the death of eleven gallant security officers, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of the armed forces and other security agencies are not in vain.
The Vice President said the Federal Government remains fully committed to the welfare of security personnel and their families, stressing that their support remains a top priority under the Tinubu administration.
He disclosed that President Tinubu had directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to affected families and displaced communities, adding that necessary measures were being taken to ensure effective humanitarian support.
Shettima prayed for the repose of the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus and to give their families and the people of Kebbi State the fortitude to bear the loss.
He also commended Governor Nasir Idris for infrastructural development and investment in education in the state, describing his administration as inclusive and development-focused.
Governor Idris, in response, appreciated the Federal Government for the visit and disclosed that the state had donated N60 million to the families of the fallen officers, while also noting that displaced communities had been resettled with improved security measures in place.
The Emir of Zuru also expressed gratitude for the condolence visit and prayed for peace and unity in Kebbi State and Nigeria at large.
The Vice President was accompanied by senior government officials, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, and the Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, among others.
