Wike: My Support for Tinubu Based on “Political Reality”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended his continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying his position is driven by “political reality” rather than sentiment or party loyalty.

Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while serving in a cabinet under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, said his political stance reflects the practical realities of Nigeria’s political environment.

He stated that his decision to align with President Tinubu is informed by a clear assessment of governance dynamics and national political stability, adding that such choices are necessary in the interest of effective leadership.

The former Rivers State governor maintained that his support for the President is not new, noting that it is consistent with his position during the 2023 general elections.

Wike also dismissed criticisms from some political actors within the PDP, insisting that his actions are guided by conviction and an understanding of Nigeria’s political structure rather than blind party allegiance.

He further argued that those questioning his position are ignoring what he described as the “real political realities” shaping the country’s governance and electoral direction.
