Peter Obi Accuses Tinubu of Misleading Nigerians with “Wrong Statistics”

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has accused President Bola Tinubu of deliberately misrepresenting Nigeria’s economic realities by relying on what he described as “wrong statistics.” In a strongly worded statement, Obi said:

“President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics — from wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP debasing — all to put a positive spin on our deteriorating economic and household conditions.”

The Labour Party stalwart criticized the administration’s recent economic narrative, accusing it of masking the true hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians. He pointed to rising inflation, worsening poverty levels, and widespread joblessness as evidence that government data is disconnected from reality.

Obi’s comments come amid mounting public scrutiny of the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy, particularly following controversial revisions to GDP metrics and changes in how unemployment is calculated. While the government maintains that reforms are aimed at improving transparency and attracting investment, critics argue the statistics are being manipulated to paint a false picture of progress.
