FG declares Friday public holiday for Workers’ Day

The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulating Nigerian workers for their dedication and contributions to national development.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister described workers as vital to the country’s growth and prosperity, commending their resilience and patriotism.

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, enhancing security and creating an enabling environment for economic growth and national progress.

He also urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the celebration while reflecting on the importance of unity, diligence and service to the nation.
