The United Kingdom’s Deputy Chief of Defence Staff for Military Strategy and Operations, Lieutenant General Charlie Collins, has visited Maiduguri, Borno State, in a move aimed at strengthening defence cooperation between the UK and Nigeria.
During the visit, Lt. Gen. Collins and his delegation were received by senior commanders of Operation HADIN KAI, Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operation in the North-East. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral military relations, improving operational effectiveness, and expanding collaboration in areas such as counterterrorism, training, and capacity building.
Military officials described the engagement as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the longstanding defence partnership between both countries. The talks also highlighted the importance of professional military development and civil-military cooperation in addressing security challenges across the region.
The visit comes as Nigeria continues to confront insurgency and other security threats in the North-East, with international partners providing support through strategic cooperation, training programmes, and knowledge sharing.
Observers say the high-level engagement underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthening regional security and fostering closer military ties in response to evolving threats in West Africa and the wider Sahel region.
The UK and Nigeria have maintained a strong defence relationship for decades, working together on security initiatives, military training, and efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism. The latest visit is expected to further consolidate that partnership and support ongoing security operations in the region. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
