President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of the appointment of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), as a non-career ambassador.

The request was contained in a letter transmitted to the upper chamber for consideration and approval in line with constitutional requirements for ambassadorial appointments.

Professor Fasina, an academic and administrator, currently serves as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti in Ekiti State.

If confirmed by the Senate, he will join Nigeria’s diplomatic corps as a non-career ambassador, representing the country’s interests abroad.

The nomination forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation through the appointment of qualified professionals and public servants to key foreign service positions.

The Senate is expected to screen the nominee before making a final decision on the confirmation request.
