A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the forfeiture of additional multi-billion naira assets linked to a former minister following his conviction on corruption-related charges.

The court granted a final forfeiture order on one property and approved interim forfeiture of four others believed to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities. The affected assets include residential and commercial properties located in Abuja and Kaduna.

The ruling followed an application by anti-corruption authorities seeking the recovery of assets allegedly traced to funds diverted during the former minister’s tenure in office. The court also directed that notices of the interim forfeiture be published to allow any interested parties to come forward and establish ownership claims.

In its decision, the court held that asset recovery proceedings can continue even after a conviction, noting that only a fraction of the funds linked to the crime had been recovered so far. The latest forfeiture order is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to recover public funds and ensure accountability.

The former minister was previously convicted on multiple counts relating to corruption and money laundering involving funds earmarked for critical national projects. Authorities say the latest forfeiture represents another significant step in the recovery of assets linked to the case.
