The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called for improved funding, enhanced staff welfare, and stronger institutional support to enable it to effectively prepare for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, in Abuja.

Amupitan said the commission is facing increasing operational demands and the challenge of retaining experienced personnel, noting that many skilled employees have left the country in search of better opportunities. He stressed that adequate funding and improved remuneration are critical to strengthening the commission’s capacity and ensuring the successful conduct of future elections.

The INEC chairman added that investing in staff welfare and institutional capacity would enhance the commission’s efficiency and help sustain credible electoral processes across the country.

In his response, the RMAFC Chairman assured INEC of the commission’s support, pledging continued collaboration to address its funding and welfare concerns. He reaffirmed the importance of adequately resourcing the electoral body to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 polls. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
