Suspected bandits have killed a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and abducted his daughter during a fresh attack on Odo-Ere, the headquarters of Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The daughter later escaped from captivity unharmed.

The victim, identified as Mr. Ayo, was reportedly shot in the head when armed attackers stormed the community on Monday evening. He was rushed to a medical facility but was confirmed dead on arrival, according to local sources.

The gunmen subsequently abducted his first daughter and fled into a nearby forest, triggering fear among residents already concerned about rising insecurity in the area. However, community sources said the young woman managed to escape from the bandits’ hideout in the early hours of Tuesday and has since reunited with her family. Her safe return sparked relief and celebration in the community.

Security agencies have reportedly launched an investigation into the attack, while tactical teams have begun a manhunt to track down those responsible. As of the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued by security authorities.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over growing insecurity in Yagba West and neighbouring communities, with residents calling for stronger security measures to curb banditry and kidnapping in the region. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
