A court has imposed a fine of N1 million on former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for requesting the recusal of a presiding judge handling a matter before the court.

The ruling followed an application in which Aregbesola and the ADC sought the withdrawal of the judge from the case, citing concerns over fair hearing and perceived bias.

However, the court dismissed the request and described it as unsubstantiated, proceeding to impose a financial penalty of N1 million on both the former governor and the political party.

The court held that such applications must be backed by credible evidence and not used to delay proceedings or undermine judicial processes.

Aregbesola, a former Minister of Interior and former governor of Osun State, has recently been active in national political engagements under the ADC platform ahead of future elections.

The matter is expected to continue in court as substantive issues in the case remain before the judge.
