President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of appointments across key institutions in Nigeria’s education sector, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.
Among the appointments, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu was named Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while the current Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, was retained.
The President also appointed Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State. Dr. Binfa succeeds Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the institution’s pioneer Rector, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026. His appointment is for a single term of five years, following a selection process that included a public advertisement in September 2025.
In addition, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria has been renewed for a final term of five years. First appointed on September 2, 2021, she has overseen reforms aimed at transforming the institution into a modern, technology-driven knowledge hub.
For the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), President Tinubu appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman. The President had earlier, on April 10, reappointed the incumbent Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term.
Professor Adelabu, a retired academic in Educational Administration, previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014 and also chaired NBTE from 2018 to 2021.
Professor Salako is a renowned researcher with extensive experience in higher education and policy leadership. He served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, where he led institutional reforms and expanded international collaborations.
Dr. Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny. He also lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
Under Prof. Anunobi’s leadership, the National Library has implemented initiatives such as the National Repository of Nigeria, the National Virtual Library, and other digital systems to improve access to knowledge resources. She has also played a key role in efforts to complete the National Library Headquarters project in Abuja and relocate heritage collections from state branches.
The Presidency stated that the reappointment of Prof. Anunobi is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and support the execution of the institution’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
