Wadada’s Choice Splits Sule, Al-Makura

Political tensions are rising within the Nasarawa State chapter of the APC following the endorsement of Aliyu Wadada as a preferred governorship candidate by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The development has created a rift between the governor and his predecessor, Umar Tanko Al-Makura, who expressed dissatisfaction over not being consulted before the announcement. Al-Makura described the move as premature, noting that the party had not yet begun its formal nomination process and warning against actions that could undermine internal democracy.

Governor Sule’s endorsement of Wadada has also drawn criticism from other aspirants, including former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, who rejected the move and insisted on contesting the party primaries. He argued that the governor has only one vote like every other party member and cannot impose a candidate.

Despite the backlash, the governor’s camp has defended the decision, describing it as consistent with political tradition in the state, where outgoing leaders often indicate preferred successors after consultations with stakeholders.

The controversy has sparked wider debate within the party, with stakeholders warning that internal disagreements could affect APC unity ahead of the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, consultations and political alignments continue as aspirants position themselves for the party’s primaries.
