Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has denied allegations that he received money from ADC presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to mobilise support for him within the party.
Lawal dismissed the claims while addressing concerns surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, insisting that his support for Hayatu-Deen was based on principle rather than financial inducement.
According to him, if his interest in politics was driven by money, he could easily seek assistance from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He argued that Hayatu-Deen did not possess the financial resources being attributed to him and therefore could not have funded any political mobilisation effort.
The former SGF also maintained that his political decisions are guided by conviction and ideology, rejecting suggestions that he was acting on behalf of any aspirant for financial gain.
His comments come amid ongoing debates over the conduct of the ADC presidential primary and the emergence of the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Lawal reiterated that his support for political figures is based on what he believes is in the best interest of the country and not on personal financial considerations.
