The Federal Government has announced plans to extend the rail line that currently terminates at Ikeja Bus Stop to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as part of efforts to improve transportation connectivity and ease access to the nation’s busiest airport.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed the plan while speaking at the Invest Lagos 3.0 opening ceremony.

According to the minister, the project is being pursued in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and is aimed at linking the existing rail infrastructure directly to the airport, providing commuters and travelers with a more efficient transport option.

Keyamo said the proposed extension would run from the current rail terminal at Ikeja Bus Stop through to the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) and onward to the international wing of the airport.

He noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government and Lagos State to improve transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.

The minister added that improved rail connectivity would boost economic activities in Lagos and further strengthen the state’s position as a major commercial and aviation hub in West Africa.
