Nigerian Army troops have neutralised a suspected terrorist commander, Kachalla Ibrahim Battijo, during a coordinated security operation in Kogi State, as part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and armed violence in the region.
According to military sources, the operation was carried out by personnel of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, following credible intelligence on the movement and activities of armed criminal groups operating within the state.
Details of the operation
The troops reportedly set up an ambush along a suspected route used by the armed group in the Lokoja axis. During the encounter, security forces engaged the suspects in a brief exchange of gunfire, resulting in the death of the commander.
Other members of the group escaped the scene with suspected injuries as troops intensified follow-up operations in surrounding areas to track the fleeing suspects.
Recovery of weapons
Following the operation, soldiers recovered several items believed to belong to the group, including:
Assault rifles and magazines
Ammunition
Communication equipment
Other operational materials used for attacks and kidnappings
