The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has called for stronger unity among traditional rulers in the South-West, urging a coordinated response to the growing wave of insecurity affecting the region.

He made the appeal during an international virtual conference organised by Yoruba One Voice Worldwide, which brought together Yoruba stakeholders, community leaders, professionals, and diaspora representatives to deliberate on security challenges facing Yorubaland.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, participants raised concerns over increasing cases of kidnapping, banditry, and violent attacks across several parts of the South-West. They stressed the need for Yoruba monarchs to put aside differences and work together in addressing the security crisis.

The conference also referenced recent abductions in Oyo State, describing them as evidence that criminal activities are expanding deeper into the region.

Stakeholders at the meeting emphasized that lasting peace and security would require stronger collaboration among traditional institutions, governments, security agencies, and local communities.
Participants further renewed calls for the establishment of state and local government policing structures, arguing that decentralised security arrangements would improve intelligence gathering and enhance rapid response to emerging threats.

They also urged federal and state authorities to intensify efforts in strengthening security architecture, while calling on residents to remain vigilant and actively support intelligence-sharing initiatives aimed at curbing insecurity across Yorubaland.

Gani Adams has consistently warned about the worsening security situation in the South-West, calling for a unified approach among political leaders, monarchs, and community stakeholders to address the growing threats posed by criminal networks operating in the region.
